about

Borderlands" is neo-classical, ambient minimalism at its very
finest. Evan aka Bluetech has produced a brilliant ambient CD, and
created his own unique brand of soundtrack music for the expanses of
imagination in your mind. Reminiscent of Eno, Glass, Reich and the
current innovators of ambient music, Borderlands" is a
distinctive and creative masterpiece that continually breaks new
ground. It is easily on a par with some of the most provocative
soundtracks of late.

The conceptual foundation of the project is a collaboration between Evan and writer Eve LadyApples. A mutual fascination with the liminal, the transformational space between and outside of defined aspects of reality, led to the idea for Borderlands, an exploration of eight different liminal spaces: birth, memory, dream, fever, medicine, practice, death and tomorrow. Each of these are being explored musically in couplets, as the space between two linked tracks. Original poetry in the liner notes offers a further development of the concepts being accessed through the music.

Fans of the fine Bluetech CDs will likely be very satisfied with
this mostly beatless release, while ambient/space fans from all
corners should flock to this Borderlands montage. This
is a CD you will want to develop a personal relationship with, as
discoveries galore await the listener.

1. birth
(between becoming
before a self knew a self
some breath, some song, called itself in
so that the days could fill themselves

and being)
before the beginning and after the end
some self beyond self rests consistently in
contemplation of the sky, from underneath the ocean

2. memory
(between experience
within time, within space
this self must travel through each moment
as each moment must become that self and then pass through

and imagination)
weaving in and out of time and space
a different landscape offers a different navigation
where the possible is tangible as clay

3. dream
(between idea
what might occur to a self
that lives by thinking, by thinking about living
by burning itself in order to light the mind

and emotion)
what lives by feeling
what opens deep inside the self, outside the mind
and in this opening, expands the possible self

4. fever
(between boil
heat rises from that opening, deep inside the self
stirring passions, awakening hungers
breaking surface tension

and burn)
heat seeks and finds the self from beyond the surface
and through intimate intertwining
leaves its mark

5. medicine
(between initiation
a time comes when the self is called to its station
when the work must be answered with all
and anything else falls away

and healing)
a time comes when the trials of the self are held at bay
when the past must unravel its grip
and purity given a chance to arise

6. practice
(between mastery
when mere competence dissolves
into the illumination of a deeper, wider skill
the self comes into focus

and mystery)
when mere knowledge dissolves
into the darkness of a vaster understanding
the self begins to release

7. death
(between falling
as though from a great height
the self tumbles breathless down and down and down
in order to probe the depths

and flying)
in order to rise from the depths
the self travels fearless up and up and up
as though towards a great height

8. tomorrow
(between intention
to plot a course through the future
the self must integrate all that has been gleaned
and with great clarity, sing a world into the light

and surrender)
in the space between notes
silence rules the self
and trust draws this story into its truest form
